How to get there

You can get to Nikel through Murmansk. It is exactly the place where trains go and plains from other Russian regions, Ukraine, and other countries fly, not counting our Scandinavian neighbors (it is easy to drive from Norway to here).

So, first you have to get to Murmansk. Trains to Murmansk depart from Moscow (Leningradsky Rail Terminal), Saint Petersburg (Ladozhsky Rail Terminal), Arkhangelsk, Minsk, Kiev, Astrakhan, Simferopol. Schedules, routes and availability can be checked here:

To get from Murmansk to Nikel, you can take the bus. It departs several times a day from the bus terminal, following the Murmansk-Norilsk route. The bus terminal is located near the rail terminal (Murmansk, Komintern str., 16), which is especially convenient for the passengers arriving to Murmansk by train. Ticket windows, toilets, waiting seats and a café can be found inside the rail terminal. It takes around four hours to get from Murmansk to Nikel. Besides buses, microbuses depart from the bus terminal as well.

Checkpoint “Titovka” functions on the border of Pechenga district. Border guards check everyone’s documents. For you to be let in, you only have to show your passport.

If you are let through “Titovka”, then you successfully entered Pechenga district and can exit the bus on the last stop in Nikel. Taken from:
